WVC Softball: After late rally to take the lead, DC Everest loses in extra innings at Marshfield plus Wausau East falls at Rapids

It wasn't easy for Marshfield but the Tigers remain in a tie with SPASH atop the WVC softball standings after a 7-6 win over D.C. Everest on Tuesday. Marshfield saw a 5-0 lead slip away but scored once in the bottom of the 7th to tie and once in the 8th to win.
Marshfield jump out front with 4 runs in the 2nd inning. Arianna Pugh put the Tigers on the board with an RBI double and then scored on an error to make it 2-0. Marshfield's 3rd run came on a steal of home by Kendall Pearce and a groundout scored the 4th run of the inning.
After Marshfield extended their lead to 5-0, Everest started their rally in the with three runs in the top of the 5th. With 2 outs Kilynn Wright drew a bases loaded walk to get Everest their first run. Ava Hahn then singled home the second run and the Evergreens got a third run on a dropped third strike. Everest then took the lead with three runs in the top of the 6th inning. Aubrey Klatt started the inning with a single that was followed by a double by Allison Blarek to put runners on 2nd and 3rd. Mara Meverden scored Klatt on a sacrifice fly to pull DCE within 5-4. Maddie Hoppe then put the Evergreens on top with a two RBI single and it was 6-5.
Marshfield forced extra innings in the bottom of the 7th when, with one out, Molly Fox singled and advanced to third on an error. She then scored on a wild pitch and it was 6-6. Marshfield had a chance to win it in the 7th but stranded the bases loaded. After the Evergreens were retired in the top of the 8th, Marshfield won it on one out single by Fox that scored Pearce.
Marshfield is 13-5 overall and 7-1 in the WVC while Everest falls to 12-10 and 4-4 in the league. Everest will host Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday night.
Also in the Valley on Tuesday it was Wausau East falling at Wisconsin Rapids 11-1 in 5 innings. The Red Raiders scored 3 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd and 1 in the 3rd to build a 6-0 lead. East got on the board in the 4th when Addi Steinke singled home Carlie Kluz to make it 6-1. However, Rapids would push 5 runs across in the bottom of the 5th to end the game. Taylor Dykstra and Mya Schubring also had hits for the Lumberjacks, who will host Wausau West on Thursday.
