Softball: D-1 sectional brackets released with Wausau West meeting D.C. Everest and Wausau East traveling to Ashwaubenon in 1st round

The WIAA softball playoffs get into full swing next Tuesday and all brackets have now been released. Last week the brackets for Divisions 2 through 5 were set and tonight it was Division 1. 5 Wisconsin Valley Conference schools are in Division 1, Sectional 2 with close rivals being drawn for the first postseason game.


Wausau West is seeded 11th in the bracket and will have the short trip to 6th seeded D.C. Everest for a regional semifinal on Tuesday. The Evergreens (14-10 overall) won the 2 regular season meeting against the Warriors (10-13), 9-6 at West on April 16th and 16-6 on May 5th. Everest has beaten West 32 straight times since the Warriors won 10-9 over the Evergreens in a regional final on June 3, 2010. The West-DCE winner will move on to a regional final on Thursday against the winner of the game between 3rd seeded Hortonville and #14 Green Bay West/East.


Wausau East is the 13 seed in the bracket and will travel to 4 seed Ashwaubenon in a regional semifinal with the winner moving on to a regional final on Thursday against either 5th seeded West De Pere or 12 seed Green Bay Southwest. Wisconsin Rapids is the 10 seed in the bracket and will travel to 7 seed De Pere. The winner travels to 2nd seeded Stevens Point. The Panthers, along with top seeded Green Bay Preble, received byes into the regional final.
