Despite two hits each from Tyler Baars and Aiden Laurila, the Mosinee baseball team falls 2-1 at Northland Pines in Great Northern Conference play on Tuesday. It was the 2nd straight one run loss in the past two days for Mosinee after a 10 game winning streak.
Back to back RBI doubles by Brody Hoeft and Griffin Beyer in the 4th inning gave Northland Pines a 2-0 lead. It stayed that way until the 6th when Baars and Laurila each singled to start the inning. Then Sebastian Andersen singled home Baars to cut the deficit to 2-1 with runners on 1st and 2nd and none out. After a sacrifice bunt put the tying run on 3rd and the lead run on 2nd with one out, the next two batters would strike out left Mosinee still down 2-1 heading to the 7th. After the first two Mosinee batters were retired in the top of the 7th, Bryson Cveykus and Baars each singled. However, Cveykus then struck out to end the game. Kaden Kolodziej pitched another solid game in defeat, going 6 innings while allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits with no walks and 3 strikeouts.
In softball, Mosinee bounced back from their loss yesterday to Medford to win 12-0 at Lakeland. Paetyn Jirschele had 3 hits, included her 100th career varsity hit, in the win. Mosinee improved to 19-4 in the win and will finish their regular season at Luxemberg-Casco for a doubleheader on Thursday before opening up the playoffs next Tuesday vs. Lakeland at home.
