In Wisconsin Valley Conference baseball on Thursday it was a tough day for the teams of the greater Wausau area. Wausau West, D.C. Everest and Wausau East all fell in league action.
In a game broadcast on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel, Stevens Point made it four league wins this week with a 13-3 win at Wausau West in 5 innings. The Warriors got on the board first on a solo home run by Joe Graveen to lead off the bottom of the 1st. However, the Panthers would then score the next 13 runs in the game. SPASH scored three in the 2nd, 1 in the 3rd, 4 in the 4th and 5 more in the 5th inning. Henry Roth and Calvin Roth had back-to-back home runs for SPASH, who had 18 hits as a team in the game. Calvin Roth, Jonathan Trelka and Gavin Thiel each had three hits in the game for the Panthers, who remain three games ahead of the field in the WVC at 10-1. Joe Graveen and Keegan Kruzan each had two hits for the Warriors, who are 2-9 in the league and 5-13 overall. West will play a pair of games at the Tomah Triangular on Saturday. West will meet Tomah at 10 am and Chippewa Falls at approximately 1 pm with both games airing live on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel starting with the pregame at 9:45 am.
It's been a tough two days for the D.C. Everest baseball team. The Evergreens lost twice to Stevens Point on Wednesday and fell in Marshfield today 12-2 in 5 innings to drop into 4th place in the WVC. Marshfield came out fast with two runs in the 1st inning and 4 runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings before Everest got on the board with single runs in both the 4th and 5th innings. Cole Van Slyke went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI while Ryan Schulz had a hit and drove in the other run for DCE. Marshfield had 12 hits in the game led by Jakob Sadowska's three hits. Marshfield is tied with Rapids at 7-4 for 2nd place in the Valley while Everest drops to 6-5. Everest returns to action on Saturday hosting a triangular with games vs. Neenah and Eau Claire Memorial at Simon Field.
Wisconsin Rapids kept their share of 2nd place with a 15-1 win over Wausau East in 5 innings. Like they did in their win over the Lumberjacks on Tuesday, the Raiders used an 11 run inning to pull away. Thursday it was an 11 spot in the bottom of the 2nd inning. East had scored first in the top of the 1st inning when, with two out, Logan Glovinski doubled and was singled home by Cam Rye. Rapids came back with 4 runs in their half of the first and then put the game out of reach with the big 2nd inning. Gaige Stockwell and Bennett Koback also had hits for East, who will travel to Merrill for a non-conference game on Friday before hosting Lakeland on Saturday.
