Track & Field: DC Everest sweeps both the boys and girls team titles in winning City Meet with DCE's McKaig and Edwards and Wausau West's Jahns near state best efforts

It was a big night on Tuesday for the D.C. Everest Track and Field team as the Evergreens won both the boys and girls titles at the Wausau City Meet at Stiehm Stadium. Along with the Wausau-area schools of Everest, Wausau West, Wausau East and Newman Catholic, the meet also featured Mosinee, Merrill, and Northland Lutheran.


In the boys' meet DCE dominated in winning with 288 points with Wausau East 2nd with 95 points, Wausau West 3rd with 78, Merrill finished 4th with 30, Mosinee 5th with 23, Newman Catholic 6th with 20 and Northland Lutheran 7th with 5.


In the boys' meet, Everest got a pair of 1st place finishes from Adam McKaig in the 100 meters (with a time of 10.60 which is the 2nd best in the state this season),  Xavier Edwards in the triple jump (with a 3rd best in the state this season leap of 46' 2"), Chris Dunow in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles, from Mason Hein in the 400 meters, Will Van Slyke in the 800 meters, Alex Jelen in the 3200 meters, Billy Schwartz in the discus and shot put, Vander Truax in the high jump, and Sam Duran in the long jump. Everest also got wins in the 4 x 100, 4 x 400, and 4 x 800 relays.


Wausau East got wins in the boys meet from Parker Schmitt in the 200 meters and the 4 x 200 relay team. Newman's best result came from Quincy Pfender with a 2nd place in the 110 meter hurdles. Wausau West's Eli Akey was third in both the 800 meters and 1600 meters with Aiden Thao 3rd in the high jump and Dylan Hall 3rd in the long jump while the Warriors 4 x 100, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 meter relays were each 2nd. Mosinee's Omar Ingram was 2nd in the high jump.


The girls meet was much closer with Everest taking 1st place with 201 points to edge 2nd place Wausau West's 180 points. Wausau East was 3rd with 74, Newman Catholic 4th with 34, Merrill 5th with 30 and Mosinee 6th with 13.


1st place results for the DCE girls came from Sophie Plansky in the 100 and 200 meters, Ashlynn Zieske in the 800, Morgan Pagel in the 1600, Kathryn Merritt in the 3200, Alayna Stashek in the high jump, Selena Yang in the long jump plus the 4 x 100, 4 x 400, and 4 x 800 meter relays.


Wausau West got meet title performances from Emily Jahns in the discus and shot put with Jahns throw of 149' 8" in the discus the 2nd best in the state this season. Gracyn Schoepke took 1st in the 110 meter hurdles, Zoe Hoff in the 300 meter hurdles, Madeline Kelter in the 400 meters, and the 4 x 200 meter relay team.


Also Wausau East's Makaea Taylor won the pole vault and Newman Catholic's Brecklyn Lindner was first in the triple jump.
