Track and Field: DCE boys win WVC meet ahead of SPASH while SPASH takes the girls title with Wausau West 2nd.

The Wisconsin Valley Conference held it's outdoor Track and Field Meet at Wausau East on Monday with D.C. Everest winning the boys' title while Stevens Point won the girls' meet. In the boys' meet Everest won with 186 points. Stevens Point was 2nd with 164 points while Marshfield was third (137), Wausau East 4th (107.5), Wausau West 5th (56.5) and Wisconsin Rapids 6th (38). SPASH won the girls team championship with 198 points while Wausau West was 2nd with 163. The rest of the girls team results were Marshfield 3rd (138), D.C. Everest 4th (113.5), Wausau East 5th (44.5) and Marshfield 6th (27).


D.C. Everest got significant points from Adam McKaig, who finished 1st in the 100 meters, 2nd in the 200 meters and 2nd as part of the 4 x 100 relay with Vander Truax, Nathaniel Briggs and Xavier Edwards. Edwards added a win with a meet record leap in the triple jump and Truax won the high jump. Other event wins for Everest came from Billy Schwartz in the discus (along with a 2nd in the shot put), and Ethan Whitmore in the pole vault. Will Van Slyke also added 2nd place finishes in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.


Wausau East got three 1st place results from Parker Schmitt. Schmitt won the 200 and 400 meters both in meet record times, including the 3rd best time in the state in the 400 and the 8th best time in the state in the 200. Schmitt was also part of the Lumberjacks 4 x 400 meter relay with Kayden Meverden, Charlie Cygan and Grayson Best. Meverden added a 2nd in the 100 meters and a 3rd in the 200, and Cygan was 2nd in the 400 meters.


The Wausau West boys best result was a 3rd place in the 4 x 800 meter relay with Lars Mahler, Chris Jensen, Charles Scharer and Eli Akey. Dylan Hall was 4th in the long jump and 5th in the 200 meters, Asa Richardt 5th in the 110 meter hurdles, Jackson Nordin 5th in the discus, and Luke Saari 5th in the pole vault.


In the girls' meet, Wausau West's 2nd place team result came from a number of big point finishes. Maci Heise had 3 1st place finishes with wins in the 100 meters, 300 meters and as part of the 4 x 200 meter relay team with Zoe Verstegen, Zoe Hoff and Isabelle Berens. Emily Jahns had two 1st place results by winning both the discus and shot put. Laiana Oldenburg-Marsh took 1st place in the 100 meter hurdles. Gracyn Schoepke and Emma Downing tied for 2nd in the high jump with two relays also finishing 2nd: the 4 x 100 meters (Oldenburg-Marsh, Verstegen, Berens and Ashlynn Haderlein), and the 4 x 800 meters (Claire Chellevold, Madeline Kelter, Anna Colwell and Kate Hostetler).


For the D.C. Everest girls Sophie Plansky earned 1st place in the 200 meters, 2nd in the 100 meters and 1st place as part of the 4 x 100 meter relay with Addison Young, Adrianna Ward and Nyla Garvey. Neah Zimmermann won the long jump as did the DCE 4 x 800 meter relay team of Morgan Pagel, Kathryn Merritt, Ashlyn Loomans and Ashlynn Zieske. Ava Whitmore added a 2nd place in the shot put and a 4th in the discus.


Wausau East got a first place result in the pole vault from McKaea Taylor. Taylor cleared a personal best and 4th best in the state this season 12'. Elsa Oestreich was 3rd in the pole vault as well. Addison Stumper earned a 5th place in the 100 meter hurdles for East.


While teams will still have the opportunity for regular season meets later this week, the postseason will begin next Tuesday with regionals.
