The D.C. Everest softball team scored 10 times in the 3rd inning and went on to beat Wausau East 13-3 in 5 innings in Wisconsin Valley Conference action on Tuesday night. Maddie Hoppe extended her school single-season home run mark with her 14th of the season as part of the big inning.
Taylor Dykstra got East on the board with a 2 run double in the top of the 1st inning to give the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead. Everest came right back in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Piper Schulz had an RBI single followed by a 2-run double by Ava Hahn to put DCE up 3-2.
Everest put the game out of hand with all 10 runs scored in the 3rd being unearned and with two out. A pair of errors kept the inning alive and Everest took full advantage. Aubrey Klatt, Kilynn Wright, Mara Meverden and Piper Schulz all had RBI hits before Hoppe finished the outburst with a 2 run homer to center field to make it 13-2.
Mya Schubring would drive in a run with a single for East in the 4th but the Lumberjacks couldn't get any closer and the 10 run rule came into effect after the top of the 5th. Klatt, Meverden, Schulz and Hoppe all had two hits for Everest (15-10 overall and 6-4 in the WVC) while Ava Hahn was the winning pitcher. Wausau East got two hits and two RBI from Dykstra.
