Softball: Tough Thursday as D.C. Everest, Wausau East, Mosinee and Newman Catholic fall.

The bats were as cold as the weather for the D.C. Everest, Wausau East and Newman Catholic softball teams on Thursday as all three lost by double figures.
Everest ran into a buzzsaw in Stevens Point, as SPASH rolled past the Evergreens 18-2 in 5 innings. Things started well for Everest as Aubrey Klatt led off the top of the 1st inning with a home run. In fact, Klatt was the offense for DCE as she homer again in the 3rd inning and finished a perfect day at the plate with longballs in each at bat. Otherwise it was all SPASH as the Panthers scored twice in the first and blew the game open in the 2nd inning with 11 runs. 1 more run in the third and 4 in the 4th finished the scoring for the Panthers. SPASH remains tied with Marshfield for first place in the WVC at 5-1 and are 8-2 overall. Everest is now 3-3 in the league and 8-6 overall.
Marshfield maintained their share of 1st place in the WVC with an 10-0 6 inning victory over Wausau East. The Lumberjacks could only muster a Claire Gille single off of Marshfield pitcher Molly Fox. Fox also added 11 strikeouts in her second straight shutout this week A 6 run 2nd inning sparked the Tigers.
Mosinee had a 10 game win streak end in a 4-3 loss at Medford in Great Northern Conference action. Mosinee falls to 12-2 despite three home runs in the game. Addy Henrich hit a pair of homers while Taelyn Jirschele also went deep for Mosinee. Ava Busse tossed a complete game in the circle with two strikeouts.
An 8 run 3rd inning lifted Edgar to a 12-2 5 inning win over Newman Catholic on Thursday. Paige Strasser was 3 of 4, Jorja Knetter 3 of 4 with an RBI, Kendyl Apfelbeck 2 of 2 with 2 RBI and Alyssa Kolano 2 of 3 with an RBI for Edgar. The Cardinals got a 3 for 3 performance at the plate from Madison Keene while Brianna Schulz and Lauren Thiel also had hits.
