Softball: Marathon makes it 12 wins in a row; D.C. Everest splits a pair of games and Newman falls to Phillips.

The Marathon High School softball team continues their red hot play on Friday with an 8-4 victory over Amherst. Ripley Skrzypchak had two hits and drove in 3 runs for the Red Raiders while Danica Staus and Tyla Beilke-Seubert also drove in runs. Beilke-Seubert was the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game allowing 4 runs on 6 hits with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks. Marathon extends their win streak to 12 and is 13-1 overall heading into two massive Marawood-South games next week vs. Auburndale. The Raiders travel to Auburndale on Tuesday and host the Eagles on Thursday. Both teams are perfect in conference play.
The D.C. Everest softball teams split a pair of games on Friday at the SPASH Invite. In their opener the Evergreens fell behind Neenah, came charging back but fell 5-4 in 8 innings. The Rockets scored three times in the 3rd and 1 in the 4th to lead 4-0. Maddie Hoppe got one back for DCE in the 4th on a solo homer and the Evergreens got even with a 3 run fifth inning. Piper Schulz had the big hit with a 2 RBI single that tied the game at 4. It would stay tied until the top of the 8th when Neenah scored the go-ahead run on a steal of home. Hoppe and Allison Blarek each had two hits for Everest and Schulz went all 8 innings in the circle allowing 4 earned runs on 11 hits with 5 strikeouts and 6 walks.
Everest then pounded 14 hits in a 14-9 win over Pulaski. Both Maddie Hoppe and Audrey Klatt had 3 hits and 2 RBI for the Evergreens and Mara Meverden slammed a solo homer. Ava Hahn had two hits and drove in three runs and was the winning pitcher by going the first five innings and allowing 6 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and six strikeouts. Everest is now 9-7 overall and will play under the lights at Athletic Park in Wausau on Monday vs. Mosinee.
Maddie Jankowski and Brianna Schulz each had two hits for Newman Catholic in the Cardinals 15-4 loss to Phillips on Friday. Schulz also had a pair of RBI in the game but Newman couldn't keep up with a big offensive day from the Loggers. Phillips had 17 hits in the game and blew it open with a 6 run sixth inning. The Cardinals will be back in action next Tuesday at Stratford.
