Two days after allowing just two hits and striking out 10 in a 2-0 shutout of Stratford, Marathon pitcher Allison Podjaski was at it again on Thursday against the Tigers. Getting more offensive support, including homers from Rehgan Martin and Brinly Stencil, Podjaski gave up 5 hits while striking out 7 in a 10-0 Red Raiders win.
Marathon jumped in front in the top of the first inning with 2 runs as Martin singled in Danica Staus and Ripley Skrzypchak following with a hit that scored Martin. In the 3rd inning Martin was at it again, this time hitting a 2-run homer after Staus had tripled with two out, to make it 4-0. The Raiders stretched it out with a 4 run 4th that featured a 2 RBI single by Sophia Conn and a 2 run homer by Stencil. Skrzypchak added an RBI single in the 7th and Staus stole home to finish the scoring.
Marathon improves their overall record to 12-1 and stretch their win streak to 11 in a row before a home game tomorrow vs. Amherst. Next week's conference action will be massive in the Marawood-South title race as Marathon meets fellow league unbeaten Auburndale twice. The Raiders travel to Auburndale Tuesday before the Eagles visit on Thursday.
