Taylor Deffner hit two late home runs and drove in five runs to help the Wausau West softball team rally to a 7-6 win over Stevens Point on Tuesday in a Wisconsin Valley Conference clash.

Deffner broke a 1-1 tie in the 5th inning when she drilled a two-run homer to center. That was followed by a solo home run by Jaidyn Calmes to make it 4-1 Warriors. However, SPASH responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-4 lead.

The Warriors clawed on run back in the top of the 6th to close the deficit to 6-5 but still trailed heading into their last at-bat in the 7th. With one out Jaidyn Oelke singled to bring Deffner to the plate. Like in the 5th, Deffner drove a ball over the center field fence to turn a one run deficit into a 7-6 West lead. Kaitlyn Butler was able to shut down the Panthers in the bottom of the 7th to give the Warriors the thrilling win. Deffner finished 3 for 4 while Breanne Bushong also had three hits for West, who improve to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the WVC. SPASH got two hits from Jordan Roth but was held to 7 hits total by Nora Hintz and Butler. SPASH loses for the first time this season and is 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the WVC.
