Marathon pitcher Allison Podjaski tossed another gem on Tuesday and the Red Raiders brok open a pitcher's duel in the 7th inning as Marathon beat Edgar 7-1 in Marawood-South play. Podjaski tossed a complete game 3-hitter with 14 strikeouts and no walks in helping the Raiders improve to 16-4 overall and 7-2 in the conference.

Podjaski and Edgar's Annie Kolodziej matched goose eggs until the 6th when the Raiders got on the board as Danica Staus scored on a passed ball. Marathon would blow it open with a 6 run top of the 7th inning. Podjaski had the only run scoring hit of the inning, a single that made it 7-0. Podjaski lost her shutout in the 7th but that was the only blemish in another outstanding effort in the circle. Marathon remains two games back of undefeated Auburndale in the conference. Edgar's Kolodziej didn't allow an earned run on 6 hits.

Also in the Marawood-South it was a tough day for Newman Catholic as the Cardinals fell to Assumption 20-3 at Sunnyvale Park on Tuesday. After Assumption scored three times in the top of the 1st inning the Cardinals responded with a 3 run bottom of the frame. Maddie Jankowski and Madison Keene each singled and were on 1st and 2nd with two out when Addison France drilled a two-run double to center to make it 3-2. Lauren Thiel then doubled home France to tie the game at 3.

However, the Royals took charge in the top of the 2nd inning when they sent 15 batters to the plate and scored 12 runs. Assumption then added five more runs in the 5th. Ari Cavanaugh had home runs in both the 1st and 2nd innings for Assumption. Lauren Thiel was 2 for 2 for the Cardinals, who will travel to Assumption on Thursday.
