Boys Golf: Wisconsin Rapids increases team lead with win in Leg 6 of WVC Meet while Wausau East's Krambs continues to dominate individually

The Wisconsin Rapids boys' golf team moved close to a Wisconsin Valley Conference title after winning Leg 6 of the conference meet while Wausau East's Sawyer Krambs continues his domination of the individual race.

On Friday at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield Wisconsin Rapids took 1st place with a team score of 319 to top 2nd place Wausau East by 9 shots and extend their advantage in the culminative standings after 6 of the 7 conference tournament legs. D.C. Everest was just one shot back of Wausau East with a team score of 329 but that one shot put the Evergreens further back of Rapids in 2nd place in the total standings. Stevens Point was 4th with a team score of 332, Wausau West 5th at 345 and Marshfield 6th at 353.

Wisconsin Rapids adds 6 points to their team total and now has 31.5 points total to lead 2nd place Everest's 27.5 points. A 4th place or better team finish in Tuesday's final Leg 7 for the Red Raiders would clinch the team title no matter how Everest does. Wausau East closed to within one point of Stevens Point in the battle for 3rd place, 24 to 23. Marshfield is still 5th overall with 13 points and Wausau West 6th with 7.

In the individual race, Krambs had the 2nd best round of the 6 legs with a 69 on Friday. The only better round in this year's WVC meet came from Krambs himself with a 68 in the 2nd Leg. Krambs had a 33 on the front nine to take charge and won the medalist honor by 5 shots over Bryce Bredl of Wisconsin Rapids. Krambs has finished first in three of the legs, tied for 1st once and 2nd in the other two legs. The medalist receives 15 points and Krambs has a total of 87.5 points through 6 legs, just 2 1/2 points short of the maximum. Bredl remains 2nd with 83 points and remains within striking distance heading into Tuesday's final round. Karter Quevillon of D.C. Everest is third with 72 points, Brandon Newago of Wisconsin Rapids 4th with 63 points and Sam Barthels of Wausau East 5th with 48.5 points.
