Baseball: Woelfel homers and drives in 4 with DeBroux also driving in 4 as Marathon rolls past Edgar

The Marathon High School baseball team keeps pace with Stratford in the battle atop the Marawood-South after beating Edgar 14-3 on Tuesday. The tie atop the league standings continues after Stratford beat Auburndale 16-2.
Marathon was in control throughout, scoring 4 times in the top of the 1st inning and then scored 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to lead 11-0. In the 1st True Thurs hit an RBI single to score the 1st Marathon run and that was followed by a 3-run home run by Drew Woelfel to make it 4-0. Thurs added another RBI single in the 2nd to extend the advantage to 5-0. Evan DeBroux had a 2 RBI single in the 3rd and another 2 run single in the 4th. Grant Salber also added a RBI double in the 4th while Blake McCain also added an RBI hit in the 5th.
True Thurs finished with 3 RBI and 2 hits at the plate and also pitched a 6 inning complete game on the mound. Thurs gave up 3 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in earning the win. DeBroux finished 3 for 3 with 4 RBI as Marathon finished with 12 hits as a team. The Raiders are now 15-3 overall and 6-1 in the Marawood-South. Marathon will host Edgar in the return game on Thursday.
