Baseball: Teske stellar in 2-hit shutout as Wausau West beats Wausau East

Wausau West starting pitcher Ty Teske was nearly flawless in tossing a 2-hit shutout while striking out 10 to lead the Warriors to a 4-0 win over crosstown rival Wausau East on Tuesday in a game that was broadcast live on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel. In addition to his pitching, Teske added 2 hits and an RBI at the plate.
West got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Marshal Helke led off with a double and advanced to 3rd on a single by Keegan Kruzan. Helke then scored on a sacrifice fly by Will Stengl to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. West would add a pair of runs in the 4th as Teske led off with a single followed by Carson Thurs being hit by a pitch. Marshal Helke then hit a grounder to short and the Lumberjacks got the runner at 2nd but the relay to first got away for an error that scored a run to make it 2-0. Alex Kapitz would add an RBI single in the inning to extend the advantage to 3-0.
West would finish the scoring on an RBI single by Teske in the 5th. Teske made sure that was all was needed as he only allowed singles to Connor Lemirand and James Dennis while striking out 10 and walking 2. Will Stengl was 2 of 2 with an RBI, Keegan Kruzan 2 of 2 and Teske 2 of 3 with an RBI as West improved to 7-14 overall and 3-9 in the WVC. Lemirand pitched well for East, going 6 innings while allowing 4 runs on 9 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout.
West will make the short trip to East for the return match up on Thursday. The game will air live on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel starting with the pregame at 4:45 pm and first pitch at 5.
