Wausau West softball team carried a three game win streak into their WVC matchup at Marshfield on Tuesday but the Warriors hopes of a 4th straight win ran into Molly Fox. The Marshfield pitcher tossed a 5-hit shutout in keeping the Tigers in a first place tie with SPASH after a 3-0 win over the Warriors. Marshfield could only manage four hits of their own but were able to scratch out the win.
The Tigers started the bottom of the first inning with a pair of singles and, with two outs, scored two runs on a West error to lead 2-0. Marshfield got their third run on a double steal in the 3rd to make it 3-0. Fox made it hold up by retiring the final 11 West batters she faced. Fox struck out 8 while not walking a batter. West got good pitching efforts as well, as Nora Hintz went the first 4 innings and allowed just three hits and Kaitlyn Butler pitched the final two innings allowing just one hit.
Marshfield is now 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the WVC while the Warriors fall to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the league. West will host Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday in a game that will be broadcast live on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel starting with the pregame at 4:15 pm and first pitch at 4:30.
