On Tuesday it was Leg 2 of the Wisconsin Valley Conference golf meet at Pine Valley Golf Course near Marathon and every stroke mattered in a tight battle at the top between Wausau East, Wisconsin Rapids and D.C. Everest. In the end it was the Lumberjacks who took the first place points with a team score of 312 to edge Rapids' score of 313 by just one stroke with Everest another two strokes back at 315 and Marshfield 4th with a team score of 321. SPASH, who had won the first leg of the conference meet, was 5th on Tuesday at 324 and Wausau West finished 6th 336.
It was an outstanding round of golf for Wausau East senior Sawyer Krambs. Krambs was the meet medalist by 5 shots after firing a 68. The Lumberjack senior was also the medalist in the first leg of the WVC meet last week at Fox Fire in Waupaca by two shots after shooting a 72. Other East scores in Tuesday's team win came from Sam Barthels with a 78, Connor Davis fired an 82, Andrew Kraft had a score of 84 and Brock Messman had an 87.
Individually, following Krambs 68, was Karter Quevillon of D.C. Everest with a 73. Wisconsin Rapids' Brandon Newago and Bryce Bredl each had a 75 to tie for third with East's Barthels tying with D.C. Everest's Ben Zoesch, Marshfield's Saket Kanchireddy and SPASH's Trent Breitbach for 5th with scores of 78. Krambs scored the maximum 15 points for his effort and leads the individual standing with 30 points after 2 of the 6 conference meet legs. Bredl is second with 26.5 points, Newago third with 24 points, and Everest's Zoesch fourth with 22.5 and his teammate Quevillon fifth with 21.5.
Other D.C. Everest scores on Tuesday were an 81 from Zachary May, an 83 from Griffen Bunnell and 85 from Xavier May. Wausau West was led by Kaden Jeske's round of 81. Brayln Steinke was close behind with an 82, Will Butalla fired an 85, Ben Schuette an 88 and Finn Christensen a 95.
With the 6 points earned for finishing first as a team, Wausau East moved from 4th place to a tie for first with Everest and Wisconsin Rapids with 9 points total. SPASH, who entered in 1st place, dropped to 4th but only one point back with 8 points. Marshfield is 5th with 5 points and Wausau West 6th with 2 points.
