The Marathon girls softball team are just one win away from a first ever trip to the state tournament after an overwhelming with over Hurley in a Division 4 sectional semifinal on Tuesday. Brinly Stencil went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI while Allison Podjaski tossed a two hit shutout with 14 strikeouts to lead the Red Raiders to a 9-0 victory.

Marathon scored runs in 5 of their 6 innings at the plate and had 11 hits as a team. Paige Brickner also had a home run and went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI and Tyla Beilke-Seubert also had 2 hits in the victory. Podjaski carried a perfect game into the 5th inning and didn't walk a batter in another stellar performance. Marathon will try to punch their ticket to Madison on Thursday when they meet Marawood-South rival Auburndale. Auburndale won both regular season meetings and earned their spot in the sectional final with a 9-1 win over Pacelli.

In Division 2, the third time wasn't the charm for Mosinee as the Indians fell to Medford for the 3rd time this season. This time it was a 7-5 win on the Raiders' home field in a sectional semifinal. Mosinee jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Taelyn Jirschele led off with a triple and scored on a single by Paetyn Jirschele. One out later Megan Treu hit a fly ball over the right field fence for a two run homer and a 3 run Mosinee lead.

Medford would then score the next 7 runs in the game with 1 in the 1st, 3 in the 3rd, 2 in the 4th and 1 in the 5th to lead 7-3. Mosinee tried to rally with a 2 run top of the 6th. Two errors led to one run and Taelyn Jirschele drove in the 2nd with a single to pull Mosinee within 7-5. While Mosinee put two runners on base in the 7th they were unable to complete their comeback and sees their season end with a 24-4 record. Medford, who has lost only one game this season, will face Baldwin-Woodville in a sectional final on Thursday.
