The Wausau Post 10 American Legion baseball team broke open a tight game with 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and beat Merrill Post 46 11-1 in five innings at Wausau East High School on Tuesday night. Because of the low to mid 90 degree heat, the original scheduled doubleheader was switched to a single game.

Post 10 started quickly with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Merrill starter Quinton Kurtzhals walked James Dennis and Davis Winter to start the inning. After Iain Stahel flew out to center field for the first out, Carson Thurs double home both runners to give Wausau a 2-0 lead.

Merrill got on the board with a run in the top of the 3rd inning. Eli Boehm started the inning with a walk. With one out Boehm advanced to 2nd on a passed ball and scored on a Brody Klebenow triple to cut the Wausau lead to 2-1 with the tying run on 3rd base with just one out. However Maddux Hurtis struck out Cooper Wendorf and retired Connor Josiger on a pop up to strand the tying run at 3rd and end the inning.

Wausau would scratch single runs across in both the bottom of the 3rd and 4th innings. With two outs in the 3rd, Logan Glovinski hit a pop up that dropped fair just behind first base to scored Davis Winter to make it 3-1. Iain Stahel had an RBI single that scored Dennis in the 4th to extend the Post 10 advantage to 4-1.

Wausau would put the game away with 7 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. A pair of errors scored two runs and a passed ball scored another with the big hit being a 2-run triple by Carson Thurs and Glovinski followed with an RBI single by Glovinski to finish the 11-1 win due to the 10 run rule after 5 innings.

Maddox Hurtis pitched all five innings and earned the win by allowing just 1 run on 4 hits with two walks and 3 strikeouts. Carson Thurs was 2 for 4 with 4 RBI while Glovinski also had two hits and two RBI as Wausau improved to 12-19 on the season.
