The Wausau West softball team made it three wins in three games this week with a 5-1 win over Pacelli on Friday in a game broadcast live on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel. The Warriors got a quick start offensively and great pitching throughout in moving over .500 at 7-6 overall on the season.

Pacelli got on the board first in the top of the 1st inning, taking advantage of a pair of Warrior errors to lead 1-0. West came back with a 4 run bottom of the 1st. Two walks and a Jaidyn Oelke single loaded the bases for Jaidyn Calmes. First a passed ball allowed Breanne Bushong to score and tie the game at 1. Calmes then singled to left that scored Oelke and Taylor Deffner to give the Warriors a 3-1 lead. Another passed ball scored the fourth run of the inning and West led 4-1.

The Warriors would add another run in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Brooklyn Freiberg scored on a wild pitch with two out to extend the lead to 5-1. That was all of the offense that West pitching would need. Nora Hintz pitched the first two innings and gave up an unearned run on 1 hit. Kaitlyn Butler then came on in the third inning and was nearly perfect. Butler threw five hitless innings allowing just one walk and striking out 6. Jaidyn Calmes led the offense with a 2 for 3 performance. Genna Hinker had the only Pacelli hit as the Cardinals fell to 4-3 overall.

West returns to action with four games next week starting with a WVC game at Marshfield on Tuesday. West will then host Wisconsin Rapids on Thursday and travel to DePere for games against DePere and West DePere next Saturday. The Thursday game vs. Rapids and Saturday's games from DePere will air on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel.
