Girls Track & Field: Wausau West and Newman Catholic lead the field at Wausau West Small Invite.

The Wausau West girls' Track and Field team earned their second team title of the week by taking first place on Thursday at the West Small School Invitational. The Warriors led with 159.5 points while Newman Catholic finished second in the 10 team field with 123 points. Shawano took 3rd with 100 points and Edgar was 4th with 54.5 points. Individually, Sophomore Yarianna Smith was a double winner as she won the 200 meters for West in 31.05 seconds and also took first place in the long jump at 15' 7". Sophomore Reneah Berens was third in the long jump as well for the Warriors. Grace Schoepke was 1st in the 55 meter dash in 8.11 seconds with teammate Lily Severson taking 3rd. Schoepke also got third place points in the high jump. West got a 1-2 in the 1600 meters from a pair of freshmen as Matilda Koser won in a time of 6:41.04, just .07 ahead of Aurora Hayek. Abbotsford's Jocelyn Jimenez was just another .08 behind in third. West also got a 1-2 in the 800 meters as senior Christiana Nordstrom won in 2:40.59 and sophomore Olivia Benes in 2nd while sophomore Julia Hauan took 4th. Sophomore Emma Downing was victorious in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 10.55 seconds. 2nd place results for West came from senior Claire Chellevold in the 400 meters, the 4 x 145.5 relay team of Vienna Friedenfels, Ruby Scholke, Emma Brandt and Kara Xiong.
For Newman Catholic, they got two first place results in relays from the same team of Aubrey Puent, Kiley Brandenburg, Addison Puent and Avery Kopke. That foursome won both the 4 x 145.5 meters and 1018 meters. Another relay win for Newman came in the 4 x 400 meters and the team of Stevie Chicka, Enya MacCarthy, Brandenburg and Brecklyn Lindner. Lindner would have a great meet by also adding two other first places and a second. Lindner was first in the pole vault by clearing 8' 6" and in the triple jump with a leap of 33' 5". She also was second place in the long jump at 15' 1". The Cardinals got a second place from sophomore Zoe Sherry in the shot put. Newman also got 2nd and 3rd in the 200 meter hurdles with sophomore Aisha Tanimu just missing first by three hundredths of a second and teammate Enya MacCarthy, another sophomore, third. The Cards also had a 2-3 finish in the 200 meters from sophomore Avery Kopke and senior Addison Puent. Tanimu added another second in the high jump while Kopke added more points for the Cards with a 4th in that event.
