Day two of the D.C. Everest Softball Invitational saw the hosts split a pair of games while Merrill got their season off to a good start with two one-run wins and Marshfield also earned a victory in their one game.

The Evergreens started the day off with a 10-3 loss to Neenah. Everest jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI triple by Mara Meverden and RBI sacrifice fly by Piper Schulz but saw Neenah take charge with a 8 run top of the third. Neenah stretched the edge to 10-2 before Madelyn Hoppe hit a solo homer to finish the scoring in the bottom of the 7th. Neenah, who beat Wausau West in their first game of the Invite 5-3 on Friday, is ranked 10th in the state in the preseason Division 1 state rankings from the Wisconsin Fastpitch Coaches Association and Maxpreps.com.

Everest was able to bounce back in their second game of the day with a 16-9 victory over Baraboo. Baraboo led 3-1 heading into the top of the 4th inning when Everest turned things around with an 11 run inning. The big blows were a grand slam home run from Audrey Klatt and a two RBI triple from Ava Haun. Everest is now 2-1 on the season and off until April 9th when they host Pacelli.

Merrill and Marshfield were also victorious on Saturday. The Bluejays won twice, knocking off Eau Claire North 3-2 and using a big inning to rally past Baraboo 6-5. In the second game, 10 of the 11 runs were scored in the 2nd inning. Baraboo score four times in the top half of the inning but Merrill came back with six runs of their own in the bottom of the inning and would hold on for the win. Merrill next will open Great Northern Conference play at Lakeland on Tuesday, April 7th. Marshfield played just one game at the event and defeated DePere 9-3. Marshfield next plays at Chippewa Falls in a doubleheader on Thursday.
