Baseball: DC Everest sweeps twinbill from Wausau East to finish 2nd in the WVC

The D. C. Everest baseball team secured second place in the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings after sweeping a doubleheader from Wausau East on Thursday. The Evergreens won the opener 13-3 and then took the nightcap 5-0.

In the opener the Evergreens scored multiple runs in each of the first five innings. Five Everest players had multiple hits including Ty Rohde, who was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI, and Ryan Schulz, who also had 3 hits in 4 at bats with an RBI. Aiden Haupt, Cole Van Slyke and Hayden Grezenski each had two hits in the game. Carter Miller was the winning pitcher by going 4 innings, allowing just 1 earned run on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk. East got a pair of hits from Peter Winter.

In game two it was a big game for Cade Felch. Felch went 4 for 4 with 2 RBI in the game. Caden Allen was 2 for 3 with an RBI as part of an Everest offense that finished with 10 hits. Riley Lake tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just 4 hits while striking out 9 and walking 2. East got a solid pitching performance from Logan Glovinski, who went 4 innings and allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks.

Everest will complete their regular season with a home game against Menomonie on Friday before starting the playoffs next Tuesday as a 6 seed at home vs. 11th seeded Eau Claire Memorial. East is seeded 14th in the same Division 1 bracket and will travel to Stevens Point for a regional semifinal on Tuesday.
