Late set comebacks helped the D.C. Everest and Wausau West volleyball teams to victories on the first night of Wisconsin Valley Conference play in 2026. D.C. Everest won at SPASH in five sets, West swept past Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and Wausau East lost at Marshfield to start the league season.
The match of the night was in Stevens Point as D.C. Everest turned the match on its head with a big 2nd set comeback that sparked a huge early-season win. SPASH appeared on their way to a quick win after taking the first set 25-13 and one point from taking the second set as they led 24-19. However, Everest would win the final 7 points of the set to pull it out 26-24. DCE then took the 3rd set 25-18 but SPASH turned the tables 25-18 in the 4th set to force a final fifth set where the Evergreens won it 15-9.
It was a first set comeback to lit the fire under Wausau West. The Warriors trailed Wisconsin Rapids 22-17 before winning 7 straight points to lead 24-22. Rapids got back to even at 24 before the Warriors finished off the set 26-24. It would be all Warriors after that in taking set 2 25-17 and set 3 25-19 to start their conference campaign with a win.
The other WVC match on Thursday had Wausau East falling at Marshfield 25-8, 25-16, 25-7.
