Football: Wausau East opens Great Northern Conference season with win at Tomahawk.

The Wausau East football team starts the Great Northern Conference part of their schedule with a 23-14 win at Tomahawk on Friday night. Camdyn Rye hit on 5 of 13 passes for 156 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. The touchdown pass came on a 34 yard connection to Xander Klein, who also had a rushing touchdown in the game. Cash Ryan Seefeldt carried the ball 14 times for 40 yards and also scored a touchdown.


Henry Maahs had 3 catches for 107 yards for the Lumberjacks, who improved to 2-1 overall. East led 9-0 after 1 quarter, 16-8 at halftime and 23-8 after three quarters. Max Larson had 13 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown for Tomahawk, who fall to 0-3. East will travel to Lakeland Union for their third straight road game on Friday night.
