Softball: Mosinee takes first step with win over Lakeland in D-2 regional semifinal.

The Mosinee High School softball team beat the weather and the Lakeland Thunderbirds in a Division 2 regional semifinal on Tuesday. 2nd seeded Mosinee got a pair of hits and two RBI from Megan Treu in a 7-2 win over the 7 seed Lakeland. Mosinee advances to a regional final on Thursday when they will host either 3rd seeded Antigo or 6th seeded Rhinelander. The regional semifinal between Antigo and Rhinelander was rained out Tuesday and will be played Wednesday afternoon.

Mosinee got off to a quick start with three runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. A double by Addy Henrich scored Paetyn Jirschele to put Mosinee on the board. Treu followed with a triple to make it 2-0 and Brooke Kaczor drove in Treu on a ground out to add the 3rd run. Paetyn Jirschele made it 4-0 in the 2nd with an RBI single to left.

After Lakeland got on the board with a run in the top of the 4th, Mosinee stretched out the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Treu got her second hit and second RBI with a single that scored Taelyn Jirschele to put Mosinee up 5-1. Paetyn Jirschele would steal home to make it 6-1 and Pacyn Stoffel added an RBI sacrifice fly to complete Mosinee's scoring.

7 different Mosinee players had hits led by two each from Treu and Taelyn Jirschele. Ava Busse got the win in the circle with 5 innings pitched while allowing just 1 run on 2 hits with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Mosinee will take a 23-4 record into their regional final on Thursday and it will be at home no matter who wins the Antigo-Rhinelander game on Wednesday.
