The Mosinee softball team trailed Antigo 2-0 after a half inning on Tuesday but that was as good as it got for the Red Robins. Mosinee would put up 15 runs in the third inning alone and go on to win 20-2 at the Mosinee Turf Field. Megan Treu had a monster game going 3 for 4 with 2 home runs (a grand slam and 3-run shot) and 8 RBI in the game. Addyson Henrich added three hits and 4 RBI for Mosinee, who are now 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Great Northern Conference.
In a game that was broadcast on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel, the Newman Catholic softball team fell to Auburndale 13-0 in the Marawood-South opener for both teams. Morgan Griesbach was solid in the circle for the 4-1 Eagles, allowing just three hits while striking out 7 and walking none in five innings. Griesbach also had three hits. Madison Keene, Maddie Jankowski and Brianna Schulz each had hits for the Cardinals, who are 1-2 overall.
Wausau East fell in their Wisconsin Valley Conference opener at Marshfield 10-0 on Tuesday. The Lumberjacks got hits from Brinley Kressel, Carlie Kluz and Taylor Dykstra but couldn't slow down the Tigers. Marshfield pitcher Molly Fox tossed the five inning shutout while striking out 12 and walking one. Fox also had two hits and drove in three runs at the plate.
