Softball: Martin, Beilke-Seubert bats and Podjaski's arm powers Marathon past Edgar for regional title

Rehgan Martin went 3 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI while Allison Podjaski tossed a complete game 4 hitter while striking out 13 to help Marathon to a 8-1 win over Edgar in a Division 4 regional final on Thursday. Marathon advance to a sectional semifinal vs. Hurley on the Raiders' home field on Tuesday. 3rd seeded Hurley upset 2nd seeded Phillips 7-3 on the road in their regional final.

Marathon got on the board in the 2nd inning after two were out. Tyla Beilke-Seubert doubled and was driven home on a single by Paige Brickner to put Marathon up 1-0. The Raiders added three more runs in the 3rd as Mayven Schneider led off with a single and came around on a Rehgan Martin single to make it 2-0. Ripley Skrzypchak then drilled a two-run homer over the center field fence to push the advantage to 4-0. Martin added another RBI single in the 4th to extend the Raider advantage to 5-0 with Beilke-Seubert and Brickner adding RBI hits in the 5th to make it 7-0.

After Edgar got on the board in the top of the 6th on a sacrifice fly Jorja Knetter, Martin put an exclamation mark on the win with a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to finish the scoring. That was more than enough for Allison Podjaski, who tossed a complete game allowing 4 hits, 1 run with 2 walks and the 13 K's. In addition to Martin's three hits, Beilke-Seubert and Brickner each had two hits.

Marathon improves to 23-5 overall while Edgar finishes their season at 11-11.
