The WIAA has announced the brackets for the state playoffs that begin next week and the area teams know their road to the state tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay. The regionals begin in Divisions 2 to 5 on Tuesday while Division 1 begins on Thursday.

In Division 1, D.C. Everest and Wausau East will be very familiar foes. The Evergreens and Lumberjacks finish the regular season on Thursday in the WVC finale and will meet again next Thursday in a regional semifinal. Everest is seeded 4th and will host 13th seeded East with the winner advancing to a regional final on Saturday, 10/24 against either 5th seeded SPASH or 12th seeded Green Bay Preble. Wausau West is also part of the sectional bracket as a 9 seed. The Warriors will travel to 8th seeded Appleton North next Thursday for a regional semifinal. The winner faces the task of a road game at top seeded Bay Port in the regional final.

In Division 2 Mosinee has had an outstanding season and is the Great Northern Conference champions. That has helped Mosinee to a #1 seed and a first round bye into the regional semifinals next Thursday. Mosinee will wait for the winner of next Tuesday's regional quarterfinal between 9th seeded Rhinelander and 8th seeded Mauston. Other top seeds in that bracket are Merrill at 2, Wisconsin Dells 3 and Reedsburg 4.

Division 3 has another of our area teams with a top seed as Marathon has earned the #1 seed in their bracket. The Red Raiders receive a first round bye into the regional semifinals a week from Thursday and will host the winner of next Tuesday's regional quarterfinal between 9th seeded Nekoosa and 8th seeded Clintonville. Other top seeds in that bracket are Wittenberg-Birnamwood 2nd, Adams-Friendship at 3 and Northland Pines 4th.

All the success that Newman Catholic has had in volleyball in recent seasons has the Cardinals moving up one division this season to D-4 because of the WIAA success factor formula. Newman, who finished state runner up in D-5 last season and have been to the state tournament three straight seasons, is seeded 6th in their D-4 bracket. The Cards will host 11th seeded Chequamegon in a regional quarterfinal on Tuesday of next week. A win would send the Cardinals to 3rd seeded Phillips for a regional semifinal next Thursday. Edgar is the top seed in the bracket with Three Lakes 2nd and Wabeno/Laona 4th.

In Division 5 Northland Lutheran is seeded 9th and will travel to 8th seeded Providence Academy of Green Bay in the regional quarterfinals next Tuesday. A win would take Northland to top seeded Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran next Thursday. Also in D-5 Faith Christian Academy of Wausau is a 10 seed and will play at 7th seeded Rosholt next Tuesday with the winner at 2nd seeded Rib Lake next Thursday.

The state tournament will be played at the Resch Center in Green Bay November 5th to the 7th.
