Girls Golf: Wausau finishes 2nd as a team at Sparta Regional and advance to sectionals as a team next week.

The postseason tournament series got underway for the Wausau Girls Golf team on Wednesday at the Sparta regional with the team advancing to sectionals next week by finishing 2nd with a team score of 376, just two strokes behind 1st place Eau Claire Memorial and 18 shots ahead of 3rd place Holmen. Stevens Point was another 13 shots back in 4th place and also advanced their team to the sectionals. The top four of the 10 teams plus the top four individuals not on one of those teams advanced to the sectionals.

Wausau, a co-op of Wausau West and Wausau East, was paced Wednesday by junior Brooklyn Freiberg. Freiberg finished tied for 4th individually with a score of 90. Breanne Bushong was one stroke back at 91 and finished tied for 6th with Anika Creisher firing a 92 for a 8th place finish. Wausau's Emma Brandt was 20th and Adee Beversdorf 27th.

Up next will be the sectional tournament next Monday at Wisconsin River Golf Club in Stevens Point with spots at the state tournament in Madison on the line.
