Football recap: Newman Catholic falls at #1 ranked Gilman

The Gilman High School football team has been as impressive as any team in Wisconsin 8-Player football in 2026, including a blow out road win vs. then #2 ranked Owen-Withee last week. The Newman Catholic football team saw why the Pirates are the top ranked team in this week's Bound Wisconsin coach's poll as the Cardinals fell 58-6 on Friday night in a game broadcast on Wausau Area Sports.

The Pirates used the big play to build a lead in the first quarter. Gilman had touchdown runs of 58, 53, 36, and 26 yards in the first quarter in addition to a 21 yard interception return for a score in building a 36-0 lead after one quarter and it was 51-0 at halftime.

The Cardinals started a long touchdown drive midway through the 3rd quarter that culminated early in the 4th quarter with a little razzle-dazzle as RB Eli Feit hit QB Michael Fox on a 26 yard touchdown connection to put Newman on the board.

Gilman moves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the North Central East-8 while the Cardinals are 0-4 and 0-3. Newman returns home to Bailliet Field next Friday night when they are scheduled to host Alma Center Lincoln for the Cardinals' Homecoming game. That game will be broadcast live on Wausau Area Sports starting with the pregame at 6:40 pm and kickoff at 7.
