While the spring High School sports season isn't quite over with the state baseball and girls' soccer state tournaments finishing things off this week, it's not too early to look ahead to the 2026 HS football season. This week Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9 area High Schools and more than 235 football players are represented at the North Central Football Camp at D. C. Everest's Stiehm Stadium.
Led by former Mosinee head football coach and Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Famer Paul Nievinski, the camp brings players together with drills for basic skill development, 7 on 7 games and more. Coaches from the area high schools and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point come together to run the drills and help players improve their skills.
Nievinski, in an interview with Wausau Area Sports, talked about the history of the camp, how the camp and other activities helps central Wisconsin players and programs to compete with teams and athletes from other parts of the state and more. You can hear our discussion with coach Nievinski on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EYhqnCl20k
