Carson Thurs allowed just one hit and Davis Winter had three hits to lead the Wausau Post 10 baseball team to a 8-0 win over Middleton at the Firecracker Classic in Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon. Wausau won for the second time in three games at the holiday tournament.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, Middleton started with a Chase Rogers pop up that dropped fair down the right field line for a double. That would be the only base hit allowed in the game by Wausau pitcher Carson Thurs. Middleton would have their biggest threat in that first inning with runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. However, Gaige Stockwell would throw a runner out attempting to steal 2nd base and Thurs would retire Jackson Kuehn on a strikeout to end the inning.
The game was scoreless until Wausau pushed 4 runs across in the top of the third inning. Parker Helke started the inning with a single and scored on a Peter Winter single to put the Bulldogs on the board. James Dennis would add an RBI single of his own to score Winter and make it 2-0. True Thurs singled to right to drive in Dennis and it was 3-0 with a throwing error on the catcher pushing the fourth run of the inning across for Wausau.
The game would stay 4-0 Wausau until the top of the 7th when the Bulldogs would put a second 4 spot on the board to double their lead. Wausau loaded the bases with none out and Davis Winter would single to right to drive in a run. True Thurs was then walked with the bases loaded to force in a run to make it 6-0. Carson Thurs had an RBI fielder's choice and Gaige Stockwell an RBI single to complete the scoring.
Carson Thurs went the distance, allowing just the lead off hit in the 1st inning while striking out 6 and walking 4. Davis Winter was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI while Connor Lemirand added two hits as part of the 12 hit Wausau attack. The Bulldogs improve their overall record to 8-16 and will continue play at Bukolt Park Sunday at 4 pm vs. Stevens Point.
