Baseball: Teske stars on the mound and Waldvogel walks it off at the plate as Wausau West rallies past Marshfield

Two runs in the 6th and a walk off RBI double by Miles Waldvogel in the 7th helps the Wausau West baseball team to a comeback 3-2 win over Marshfield in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and regular season finale on Thursday in a game broadcast live on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel.

Marshfield's Dayton Bugar and Wausau West's Ty Teske battled in a pitchers' duel for much of the afternoon. Marshfield got their two runs in the top of the 3rd. Jackson Zaleski singled home the first run for the Tigers and then Dylan Langhoff hit a sacrifice fly to left to make it 2-0.

The Warriors had chances throughout the game. West stranded runners on 1st and 2nd in each of the first two innings, a runner on 2nd in the third and left the bases loaded in the 5th. West finally broke through in the bottom of the 6th. With 1 out, Miles Waldvogel singled to center field. Marshal Helke then came to the plate and hit a fly to the deep right field corner for a double that scored Waldvogel and put West on the board. With 2 out and Helke still on 2nd, pinch hitter Keegan Kruzan singled to right to tie the game at 2.

After Teske shut down the Tigers in order in the top of the 7th, Marshfield brought Jakob Sadowska from shortstop to pitch after 6 strong innings from Bugar. Carson Thurs reached on an error to start the inning and that was followed by a walk to Teske. It started to look like Sadowska would get out of the jam as he retired the next two hitters before Waldvogel like a shot to the gap in right center field for a double that scored Thurs and give West the win.

Waldvogel finished 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Parker Monday also had two hits for West. Teske retired the final 8 batters he faced in the complete game win. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 6 strikeouts and just one walk. West improves to 10-15 overall and finishes 5-10 in the WVC. The Warriors will travel to River Falls next Tuesday for a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal that will be broadcast live on the Wausau Area Sports YouTube channel starting with the pregame at 4:45 pm and first pitch set for 5 pm.
