Softball: Marathon wins American Legion State championship in D-2 while Wausau Post 10 takes 4th place in Division 1.

It's been a good 2026 for Marathon softball. During the spring, the Marathon High School softball team earned their first trip to the WIAA State Tournament and on Sunday the Marathon Post 469 softball team earned a Division 2 state American Legion title at the state tourney in Merrill. Wausau Post 10 finished in 4th place in Division 1 at the tournament.

Marathon took the championship of the double elimination tournament by winning four of their five games, including a 15-3 victory over defending state champion Fall Creek. Fall Creek had defeated Marathon in the final a year ago. In the championship winning game, Tyla Beilke-Seubert had massive offensive performance. Beilke-Seubert went 4 for 4 in the game with a Grand Slam home run and 9 RBI. It was the 3rd meeting of the tournament between Marathon and Fall Creek, as Marathon won a winner's bracket game 9-4 on Saturday before Fall Creek earned a 5-2 win in the championship round to force the winner-take-all final game.

Marathon started the tournament on Friday with an 8-5 win over Bloomer. Marathon took charge early with a 7 run 1st inning that included a 3 RBI double by Allison Podjaski. The second game for Marathon against Augusta took two days to complete. The game started on Friday night with Augusta scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take the lead. Marathon would score single runs in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd innings to tie the game at 3 after 3 innings when the rains came and suspended the game until early Saturday morning. Augusta would then take a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning when Paityn Brickner would lace a game-winning 2 run double to right center field and give Marathon a 5-4 victory to stay in the winner's bracket.

Marathon pitcher Allison Podjaski was named the tournament MVP and Rehgan Martin earned the award for the highest batting average in the tournament. Podjaski and Martin also were named to the all-tournament team along with Tyla Beilke-Seubert and Paige Martin.

In Division 1, Wausau Post 10 finished in 4th place after having their season end in a tough 9-8 loss in 8 innings to Arcadia on Saturday night. It was a game that Wausau led 3-0 and 6-3. The 6-3 lead came in the bottom of the 3rd inning when Adriana Bodner drilled a 3-run home run off the scoreboard in center field. Bodner finished with 4 RBI in the game. Arcadia came back to lead 8-6 going into the bottom of the 6th inning when Wausau would rally itself with two runs to tie the game. Kaylen Majewski scored on a wild pitch and a Bodner fly to center was dropped that scored Taylor Deffner to make it 8-8

However, Wausau had no answer for Arcadia's Tatum Drazkowski. Drazkowski, who was 4 for 5 with 4 RBI, hit an RBI double to deep center field in the top of the 8th inning to bring in the winning run.

Earlier in the tournament Wausau had defeated Sparta 16-3 in their opener on Friday morning. Bodner, Majewski and Carlie Kluz all had three hits in that game while Brooklyn Freiberg and Taylor Deffner each had two hits for Wausau. Wausau then fell to Waupun 15-0 and beat Allenton 13-2. In the victory over Allenton, Deffner had two hits, including a home run, with 4 RBI. Majewski was also 3 for 3 and Freiberg had two hits.

Medford went undefeated en route to the Division 1 championship and beat defending state champion Waupun 4-2 in the final game.
