Football: Wausau East runs into a buzzsaw in loss at La Crosse Logan.

The La Crosse Logan football team came into their home game against Wausau East on Friday ranked #10 in the Bound Division 2 state poll. While rankings are for "entertainment purposes only", East found out that the Rangers are worthy of the early season accolades. Logan recorded their second straight shutout to start the season with a 37-0 victory over the Lumberjacks.

It didn't take long for things to take a bad turn for East as starting running back Cash Ryan Seefeldt, who ran for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Lumberjacks 28-0 week 1 win over Shawano, suffered a right leg injury on a 4 yard run on the first play from scrimmage. East was able to take the opening kickoff and drive deep into Logan territory but the 12th play of the drive, a 42 yard field goal attempt, was no good. Logan got the ball for the first time on their 20 yard line and took the lead immediately on an 80 yard touchdown pass from Tommy Check to Charlie Zellner to lead 7-0.

After stopping the Lumberjacks on the next series, Logan continued to move the ball and scored as Check hit Bubba Leaver on a short out with Leaver breaking a tackle and going 51 yards for the score to make it 14-0. East, after a penalty on the ensuing kickoff, started on their own 8 yard line. Cam Rye was then tackled in the end zone on the next play for a safety and it was 16-0 with 2:18 left in the first quarter.

Following the free kick, Logan drove it to the East 1 where Sam King went in for a short scoring run to extend the advantage to 23-0 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. Logan would finish the scoring with a pair of touchdown runs from Jameson Degenhardt from 39 yards with just over 7 minutes left in the 2nd and 1 yard with under 30 seconds left in the half to make it 37-0.

Logan has outscored their opponents 72-0 in their first two games of the 2026 season. Degenhardt finished with 10 carries for 120 yards and those 2 TD's. Check hit on 5 of 7 passes for 143 yards and 2 TD's. East got 43 yards rushing on 7 carries from Spencer Pearson while Xander Klein gained 33 yards on 10 carries. Cam Rye hit 7 of 16 passes for 34 yards. East will open Great Northern Conference play next Friday at Tomahawk.
